In May of 1865, Frederic Edwin Church, the central figure of the Hudson River School travelled to Jamaica to find tropical-pristine-nature and new materials for large-scale landscape paintings. Traveling by ship, this painting, looks into the impact of Church’s journey and his fellow passengers the European Rat.
