The Natural History of the Great MasturbatorOil on canvas, 43.3 in × 59.1 in, 2019

Often non-human animals have meaning projected onto them by their observer. Frequently, this process is filtered through cultural, political or social beliefs and values. In Dali’s case animals represented his fears, desirers and phobias. The Natural History of the Great Masturbator is permanently on display in the Hall for Surrealism and its Study.
